3-22-04 - Police in Van Alstyne, Texas made a shocking discovery when they stopped a man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Inside his car, they found 13 firearms, including several automatic rifles and machine guns. Police arrested Richard Havens Junior for DWI and a felony charge of DWI with a minor in the car.

But this isn’t the first run-in with police for Havens, while carrying an automatic weapon. In January of 2003, he was arrested inside a Piggly Wiggly in Sherman after an employee found that he was carrying a sub-machine gun with silencer inside a case. Havens was later released from jail when police confirmed he had a license for the gun.

But the Van Alstyne PD is having the ATF look into this case, considering Havens is accused of being intoxicated while in possession of the firearms. Several of the weapons were loaded, including a gun that was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the stop. Police also found a .30 caliber machine gun with tripod in the trunk. The weapons have been impounded until the investigation is complete.
