Triple-A: Gas prices reach a record

(Orlando, Florida-AP) -- There's another survey showing that gas
prices have never been higher. The AAA reports that American motorists are now paying an average of just under $1.74 for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline, slightly higher than the previous record that was set late last August.

In a statement, the auto club says it had expected to see a new record high this year because of a combination of factors, including rising fuel consumption, high crude oil prices and "chronically" low inventories.

AAA says escalating gas costs are challenging family and
business budgets, and it says consumers might want to seriously
consider buying a more fuel-efficient vehicle when it's time to get
a new car.

Earlier this month, the Lundberg survey also reported that
gasoline prices had reached a record high.
