3-23-04 - A century old home in Sherman neighbors that neighbors call an eyesore and a safety hazard won’t be torn down anytime soon. The house on South Walnut sits in an historic district in Sherman, and is protected by the state.

Neighbors have complained to the city about the home several times in recent years. Most of the windows are broken out and the front yard is overgrown. State lawmakers have even been asked to step in, but the Texas Preservation Society won't allow it anyone to tear it down, instead insisting that it be preserved.

Today First News spoke to the owner, Chuck Lockhart, who lived in the home until a few years ago. He says they’ve made attempts to restore the house, but thieves and vandals have knocked out windows and stolen lumber.
