Ardmore Bond Passes Despite Low Turnout

4-6-04 - The second time was the charm for an Ardmore school bond aimed at repairing and updating the high school and middle school buildings. It passes Tuesday night with 62% of the vote.

The $4.2 million bond will pay for all types of repairs, including a new roof and new heating and cooling units.

In November, voters narrowly defeated another bond proposal, which was also tied to elementary schools. But after concerns that voters may have been confused, school leaders chose to focus this bond solely on the other school buildings.

Voter turnout was extremely low, despite good weather for most of the day in Ardmore. Only 2,064 people voted, and in one precint, just four people cast their ballots.
