Bush, Cheney to Testify in Private; Rice to Testify in Public

(White House-AP) -- President Bush and Vice President Cheney are
agreeing to testify privately before the special panel investigating Nine-Eleven. White House counsel Alberto Gonzales says Bush and Cheney have agreed to one joint session with all ten Nine-Eleven commission
members. In a major reversal, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice will testify before the panel in public. White House spokesman Scott McClellan says the panel had agreed to the administration's conditions for the testimony. They include assurances that such testimony won't set a precedent -- and that the panel won't ask for additional public testimony from any other White House official. A statement from the panel says it welcomes the decision, and agreed that the testimony shouldn't be seen as setting a precedent.
It says it'll work with the White House to schedule the sessions
"promptly."
