(McAlester-AP) -- A retired FBI agent testified today that a drill bit found in the home of Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols was used on a padlock at a rock quarry where explosives were stolen.
Retired toolmark examiner James Cadigan says the one-quarter
inch drill bit found in Nichols' basement made a hole in the lock at the quarry in Marion, Kansas.

Cadigan says swirls and other cuts made in a test drilling match
the swirls and cuts in a hole in the padlock. His testimony was attacked by Nichols' defense attorneys, who questioned the F-B-I's procedures for examining drill bit evidence. The defense also questioned whether a comparison is possible based on cuts and grooves left by a drill bit.

Prosecutors say Nichols stole detonation cords and blasting caps
from the quarry for use in the bomb that destroyed the Oklahoma
City federal building.

Nichols is on trial in McAlester on 161 first-degree murder
charges for the bombing. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
