4-18-04 - Downtown Van Alstyne business owners are recovering after a fire destroyed an historic building. It had been a part of the community since the 1800's, sitting in the 200 block of East Marshall Street.

Once known as the Theater House, the building caught fire around 10:30 Saturday night. Firefighters believe it began inside the Van Alstyne Travel Agency.

It took several fire firefighting units until 3am to bring fire under control, and while there weren't any injuries business owners are at a total lost. Authorities are not sure of the damage amount but it is estimated the lost could cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
