Texas - There were no long lines at this year's polling sites - no picketers or signs out front. This year's Election Day had a slim turnout, with the state of Texas predicting only five percent of registered voters to hit the polls.
We talked with election officials about the issues and why they wish more people would get out and vote.
"It's important to vote because that's your voice,” said Bonham Independent School District superintendent Sonny Cruse.
We hear it often enough, voting your opinion is the American way. Then why do so many Americans stay away from polls on Election Day?
"Unfortunately constitutional amendments don’t bring a big draw,” said Cruse.
Grayson County election official Dena Patterson says the local and state issues, like the 11 proposed amendments to the Texas constitution on the ballots today, don't interest enough people.
"Typically the voter turnout is low, statewide and that's what we're hearing today, but we would like to encourage people to come out and vote," said Patterson.
It seems like Sherman resident Allen Bremers was in the minority when he cast his ballot earlier today.
"It was just something to do to look at the local amendments and cast a ballot, kind of care about what the issues are,” said Bremers.
But one issue was big enough to draw out more voters - the Bonham school bond.
"Bonham has a higher turnout because of the bond election; I would think that communities with any kind of bond election or tax election their turnout would be a little bit higher,” said Cruse.
With a price tag of $40 million the bond could raise taxes by about $35 a month if it passes. And that's something that's got Bonham residents voicing their opinions.
"In any facet of government we have the right to vote or decide who are our leaders are or issues like this you have a chance to go vote, so if it's important to you go make your vote count," said Cruse.
