TEXOMA -- The tragedy at Fort Hood has hit home for all Americans but even more so for those who have served in the military and at Ft. Hood. Our own Josh Stevenson served in the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood. He files this report.

More than 50,000 soldiers call Ft. Hood home. Originally built as a training ground for tank destroyers during World War II, those who have served there, lived there and trained there know that there is nowhere else like it. So for veterans who once called Hood home, the news of todays tragedy cuts deep.

"I was shocked."

"It is sad, very sad."

"It sort of takes the wind out of your sales when something like this happens."

For veterans all across Texoma the news of a mass shooting at Ft. Hood, hits close to home.

"The more I watched, it drags up a bunch of feelings that you don't think about, it is like family involved," one veteran said.

While Thursday's incident has shaken the country, the military and veterans alike, it isn't the first time an American serviceman has turned on his fellow soldier.

"You wonder if it is ever going to stop, or if it will just gets worse, and it looks like it will just get worse," said another vet.

"It was a shock to me that this could happen again," one veteran said.

While the investigation into why an Army Major would kill his fellow soldiers is just getting underway, for veterans the fact that the perpetrator of the violence was one of our own brings with it difficult emotions.

"Was this a covert act? Was it an act of desperation,or whatever, all I know is that myself and others we feel very hurt, we feel very betrayed, and we feel very mad," Flood said.

It is important to remember that this attack not only affects us here at home, but soldiers who are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, who now not only have to deal with the danger posed by the enemy--but the threat of distraction from worrying about the wives and children they left at home.
