Victim Awareness in Fannin County

4-22-04 - Victims of violent crimes were remembered in Bonham Thursday night. A crowd of around 50 people took part in a ceremony as part of Victims Awareness Week.

The Fannin County Crisis Center organized the vigil, focusing on victims of domestic violence. Outside the Fannin County Courthouse, Sandy Hood, a survivor of child abuse, told her story to the crowd. She recalled a childhood filled with physical, mental, and sexual abuse. But now, as a case worker for Fannin County, she’s turning those terrible experiences into a way to help others.

The speakers at the event put an emphasis on the need for adults to recognize the signs of child abuse. They say the worst thing people can do is turn their heads away from a child needing help.
