SHERMAN, TX -- Fifth graders from all over Grayson County got a chance to get a little culture Thursday in the form of classical music. The Sherman Symphony Orchestra performed in front of more than 1,100 fifth graders Thursday morning at the Kidd Key Auditorium.

Kids got to learn about the instruments and hear a good selection of classical music. Symphony director Daniel Dominick says learning about music is an important part of a child’s development.

"Learning about the arts and music helps develop kids’ minds by using a different part of their brain. It also lets them know that people are out there trying to help in their community," Dominick says.

The Sherman Symphony will hold their Christmas Pops concert at the Sid Richardson Center at Austin College on December 5 and 6.
