SHERMAN, TX -- It's been a major concern for Texoma residents, now, H1N1 vaccines will finally be available in Grayson County. A limited number of vaccines will be arriving at the County Health Department next week. Heather Sahr reports.
Both the Sherman and Denison locations will offer the shots, on a first-come, first-serve basis next week.
While anyone is eligible to receive the shot, staff encourages only those who fall into specific target groups to come get it.
On Monday and Tuesday the clinics will offer walk-in vaccinations between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Target groups include:
-Pregnant women
-People who live with, or provide care for infants younger than six months
-Health care and emergency service personnel
-Children between the ages of six months and four years
-And kids between five and eighteen who have medical conditions that put them at a higher risk for flu complications.
The vaccines will be offered in shot form, not the nasal spray.
Amanda Ortez of the Grayson County Health Department says they only have about 500 doses of vaccine to share between the two locations. She hopes this shipment will be enough for now--but says they may receive more.
"It is possible we will receive additional supplies of the HINI vaccine and at that time we will notify the public if we receive ample supply," said Amanda Ortez with the Grayson County Health Department.
If you'd like to get the shot, you can go to the Sherman location at 515 North Walnut, or the Denison location at 205 North Houston Avenue.
