One of the Virginia Tech students killed was originally from Oklahoma.

Lauren McCain, who was 20, was planning to major in international studies at Virginia Tech.

Before moving to Virginia, we're told she lived in the Shawnee area, and has family members in Durant.

A prayer service for Lauren and other victims was held Tueday afternoon in Hampton, Virginia.

Yes, what happened at Virginia Tech is an unthinkable tragedy, and we are very saddened it has touched so many lives, especially one of our own. Word is spreading thru our community and many, many people immediately rallied together in support of the family. Just because this particular website has not been visited and a comment left does not mean we are not helping our friends.

I teach with her aunt and we are very saddened and are supporting the family as we can. I think that only the school community knew of the incident and her connection initally, but now we are making the community aware. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lauren's family and all the other families that have been touched by this tragedy.

She was a tremendously wonderful young woman. Her Maker had also become her Saviour and we are comforted that she is now alive with Him, never again to experience harm. Her grandmother, aunt, uncle and 4 cousins live in Durant. Another aunt and cousin lives in Fort Worth. Her family statement can be viewed by clicking on the "more" link under her photo in this news article: (hopefully not a competitor with KXII)

This was such a tragedy - my heart and prayers go out to each and every person this has affected. I am reminded of the incredible love and forgiveness displayed to the world by the Amish people during their tragedy. I was incredibly humbled by their actions at that time. Not sure I could be that forgiving....

I agree with Kristi. I can't begin to imagine the pain these families are feeling. My heart and my prayers go out to them.

I think it's sad no one has had anything to comment about this yet. My prayers are with all the victims' families, regardless of their ties to the Texoma area.
