As the nation mourns the tragedy at Virginia Tech, a Durant family is among those grieving for loved ones lost.

We met with family members earlier today. Family members say Lauren McCain was passionate about life and her faith and leaves behind a legacy of loving others.

"She was a unique individual. Very unique. To know her was to love her."

Ruth Boydstun recalls her granddaughter, Lauren McCain, as someone with a smile on her face. She would visit Ruth at her home in Durant, and had dreams of working in international business in Europe after graduating from Virginia Tech.

She was sitting in German class on Monday when a shooter claimed the life of this Oklahoma native.

"She would not want any emphasis on how she died, she would want the emphasis on what her life was."

Ruth says the focus of her granddaughter's life was her faith and stated her purpose in life many times.

"Her motivation was entirely on the Lord, Jesus."

Lauren's parents live near Norfolk, Virginia and drove five hours to Blacksburg after hearing about the shooting.

Her family identified her yesterday afternoon., but Ruth says the community in Virginia is showering them with support.

"The initial shock of course was devastation, but they're going to be ok, they're going to be ok."

As Ruth and her family remember the light Lauren brought to their lives and rest in the comfort they will see Lauren again

Family members say they plan to bury Lauren near Shawnee, Oklahoma, near her birthplace.

A fund has been set up for the McCain family at Landmark Bank in Durant.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Lauren but I know the family well from Durant and have heard many wonderful things about this outstanding young lady. It's hard to understand why things like this happen to good people but we need to trust God when life doesn't make sense. Please remember Lauren's family and friends in your prayers in the days, weeks and months ahead of them.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. It is such a senseless loss. let's make sure that her death is not in vain. Keep her spirit and faith alive and growing. Again, God bless the family.
