Sorting out the details at Lake Texoma Lodge

By  |

Officials sealed the deal on the sale of the Lake Texoma Lodge in March, but the wheels of progress don't seem to be turning fast enough for locals.

Now officials at the Marshall County Abstract Company are working to clear the land to be sold. But when you're talking about a century's worth of documents to address, it doesn't happen overnight.

To look to the future, you must first re-visit the past.

Officials with the Marshall County Abstract Company have spent countless hours in a courthouse vault researching previous owners of the land surrounding the Lake Texoma Lodge.

The documents date back to statehood, from the time the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nation owned it in 1907, to the 1940's when the United States took over, until now.

No matter if you're looking to buy a house or seal a land deal as big as this, you must first research all recorded instruments that may affect the ownership of the land.

Officials have ten abstracts to complete, and while the mission takes time, it doesn't mean the lodge deal is in jeopardy.

While the lodge and cabins are shut down, there's plenty of fun to be had on the lake.

But there's light at the end of the tunnel. Land commissioner officials say one day in the near future, Pointe Vista Development's name will appear in these volumes as new owners of the Lake Texoma Lodge.

And when that happens, they reassure locals that business will be booming like never before.

Officials at the office of the land commission say the abstract company should wrap up their work within the next couple of weeks. That will clear the land to start putting the infrastructure in place.
