05-01-04 - After two months of searching, the city of Ardmore now has a new chief of police. City officials say they didn't have to look far for Jim Hughes, who has been acting chief since February.

Interim Hughes will officially become the new police chief after Monday's city commission meeting.

Hughes was named interim chief back in February, just two days after Chief John Beene stepped down due to health reasons.

Hughes is an experienced lawman. In his 27 years of law enforcement, Hughes served as police chief in Altus and was a U.S. Marshall in Tulsa for two years.
