Students at S & S Elementary in Southmayd got a special treat on Friday.

Their principal, Terry Martin, agreed to spend the night and day on the school’s roof after students raised over $400 during a fundraiser event.

The money will go to Ms. Thom's reading room, a special room in the school library dedicated to a teacher who passed away last year.

Mr. Martin was allowed to take a tent, flashlight, water, food, and of course a cell phone.

“I made the deal with them, made them put the stipulations as far as what was on that paper to bring up."

The students and faculty got a kick out of the event.

Martin says he didn't mind. It was for a good cause.

Thank you for the hamburger Hunter! :) Jayce and Colby were so thoughtful to bring me toilet paper and snacks and Hailee and Brittney thought I would need some candy but they didn't want to wake up at 2:00 a.m. so they sent dad up with it. Sarah sent me a pizza and donuts for breakfast and Abby brought me pringles and candy!!!! :) Dylan and Dustin came by to wish me luck before I got on the roof. Sara, Nikki, Joseph, Chrislin, Abby, Megan, Hunter, Haley, Cole, Cassidy, and Thomas all stayed to heckle me when I got up there. Thank you everyone for helping raise the money for Ms. Thoms' Reading Room. She would be so proud of all of you.
