ARDMORE –Dozens of families across Ardmore and several area businesses are preparing for a benefit concert and fundraiser, to help a local man who's been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Shelby Levins reports.

Darrell Floyd was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago. Then this august after several rounds of chemotherapy and radiations, the father of six decided to stop all treatment. Hospice has now been called in to care for Mr. Floyd, and the community is pulling together to help ease the family's financial worries.

On Saturday Suzy’s Bar will be transformed into a benefit concert and live auction, all to benefit Darrell Floyd who's battling cancer, and his family who's just taking one day at time.

"The day that I wake up and my husband's feet aren't laying next to me, it's something I can't comprehend, and for this family to know that this day is coming upon them…” Suzy Peek, the owner of Suzy’s Bar, said.

Peek is hosting the fundraiser to help ensure Floyd doesn't leave this world worrying about unpaid bills or providing enough for his family.

The band "Strongwood" is headlining the show. Kevin Smith, The Thurstin Thursday Group and Indian Bridge will also be taking the stage, and more than 100 donated items will be auctioned off.

"You can sit here and drink a coke and enjoy some awesome music and Christmas shop all you want - you don't even have to worry about fighting Wal-Mart lines,” Peek said.

From mosaic crosses and electronics, to gift certificates for dinners or sailing get-ways - there’s something for everyone.

And while Darrell's sister, Cheryl Mayfield, says this battle is taking its toll on the whole family, but the outpouring of community support comforts them.

"This community has totally amazed me and I would hope that every community comes together like this one has,” Mayfield said.

The fundraiser begins at 7 on Saturday and an appetizer buffet will be provided. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Suzy says they're still taking last minute donations to auction. If you’d like to donate, give Suzy a call at 580-224-7020, or just swing by the bar at 115 E. Main in downtown Ardmore.
