5-4-04 - A man in Denison is fighting crime by fighting trash. Curtis Madden owns the Rock – a local club in the northeast part of town. But after a teenager was shot outside his business two weeks ago, Madden decided something had to be done.

He’s organizing a group of volunteers to start cleaning up vacant lots and sidewalks in the neighborhood. They’ll do everything from pick up trash to cut down overgrown brush from Bond Street to MLK.

He says the litter is a message to drug dealers and criminals that the neighborhood doesn’t care about improving. But he says some hard work could change the image of this neighborhood.

He hopes to have 25 people working on Fridays through Sundays to get the job done by next month.
