A local family suffered a tragedy Thursday afternoon when their two-year-old-girl was found unconscious in a nearby pond just outside of Whitesboro.

Family members are dealing with inexplicable grief after the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital about 5 o’clock Thursday evening.

Authorities say family realized the girl was missing about 45 minutes after they last saw her.

Neighbors and relatives searched the area off of Highway 56 and FM 901. About an hour later a neighbor discovered the girl's body floating in a nearby pond.

EMS performed CPR on her and then took her to Wilson N. Jones hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m.

"We are still investigating. Anytime there is an unattended death we have to work it as a crime scene," said Lt. David Hawley with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office.

Relatives say the toddler was the only daughter and granddaughter in the family.

They say they're trying to hold on and get through this tragedy.

Authorities say no charges have been filed at this time.
