Pond Problems in Ardmore Neighborhood

5-6-04 - A retention pond in a northwest Ardmore neighborhood isn’t sitting well with some residents. They say it’s a danger to the community.

Helen Pike moved into the neighborhood behind Wal-Mart over a year ago, but has now found herself with a prime piece of waterfront real estate. Developers clearing a lot next-door put in the retention pond, designed to collect and drain excess water runoff.

But now Helen and her neighbors worry that the pond could present a drowning hazard for children or a breeding ground for mosquitoes this summer.

First News spoke with city developers on Thursday. They say construction of a drainage system was underway until heavy rains postponed it. Those rains also filled the pond. But they expect to have that drainage system up and running soon and the pond drained.
