Community Comes Together for Boy With Leukemia

5-08-04- Eleven-year-old Ethan Hartwell is fighting for his life. Eight weeks ago, the Bonham fifth grader was diagnosed with Leukemia. Since then, life has been tough for the Hartwell family, but Saturday, folks in Fannin County came out to help in a big way!

Ethan is undergoing his second phase of chemotherapy at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth and the mounting medical expenses have been hard on the Hartwell family. But on Saturday, a fundraiser organized by friends, was designed to help ease their burden.

Those who came out for the fundraiser didn't forget why they were there, but they did try to have a good time. There was a car show and a car wash and a generous community raised more than $2,000.

The money raised Saturday will help the Hartwell family with medical and travel expenses. His grandfather says Ethan is taking on his fight with leukemia with courage.

Next Saturday, the Texas Free Riders will hold another fundraiser for Ethan at the armory pavilion in Bonham.
