Surprise Visit: Rumsfeld at Abu Ghraib

05-13-04 (Baghdad, Iraq-AP) -- An American commander in Iraq says Defense Secretary Rumsfeld wants to get a "better view" of the prison
that's at the center of the abuse scandal.
Rumsfeld arrived in Baghdad today on a surprise visit. Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt says Rumsfeld wants to see Abu Ghraibprison for himself and meet the personnel there. Kimmitt tells ABC radio that Rumsfeld may have "concerns" about troop morale in the wake of the abuse scandal -- and he wants to make sure things on the ground are in "good shape."
Kimmitt says Rumsfeld may also be concerned that the Iraqis are
looking at him "a little bit" differently after photos of the
alleged abuse were shown around the world.
