Sunday Afternoon and Evening ... Scattered intense thunderstorms are expected, some severe. Large hail, high winds and the potential for isolated tornadoes will be the main threats. Locally heavy is rain also possible with these storms.

Election Results

5-15-04- Low voter turn out made for interesting election results across North Texas. In Sherman, city council and school board seats were up for grabs. In Cooke County, voters passed a multi-million dollar bond for a new jail and new EMS facility.

Four seats were up for grabs on the Sherman city council. In District One, with 816 votes, Steve Jonse beat Dr. Alexander Bernath, who had 441 votes.

In District Two, with 766 votes, Terrence Steele kept his council seat, beating Orvie Lee Cantrell, who received 569 votes.

In District Three, with 759 votes, Curt Hughes beat incumbent Amy Hoffman-Sheehan, who received 541 votes.

In District Four, Chip Adami, who ran unopposed, recieved 998 votes.

In Cooke County, voters approved a $10.5 million bond for a new jail. The bond passed with 52.9% of the vote. 1,525 people voted for the bond, 1,391 voted against it. Passing the bond will also mean a 4 1/2 cent tax rate increase. The new jail will also include new E.M.S. facilities to replace the current building. It is the first bond package passed in the county since 1908.
