GRAYSON COUNTY - A 21-year-old Whitesboro man is dead after he drowned at Lake Texoma Sunday afternoon. Officials said Justin Wade Tatum from Whitesboro was swimming with his friends when he attempted to cross a sandbar. Water from recent rains covered the sandbar, and as he was crossing, he veered from the group and went under water several times.
Officials said Tatum called for help. Several friends jumped in the water to save him, but they could not find him.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden, along with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, and recovered Tatum's body at 7:00 PM.
An autopsy will be performed to find out the exact cause of death.
