SHERMAN, TX-- Some good news for Sherman and Denison has come in the form of a new report released from Texas A&M University's Real Estate Center.
The study takes into account the median income of wage earners in an area, and along with the median sales price of a home, determines where you can get the best deal on a home in the state of Texas.
"The Sherman/Denison area is number two in the State of Texas in housing adorability. That means you can get a lot of house for the money here," Mark Tooley, a realtor with Virginia Cook, says.
Second only to Garland, the affordability of homes in Sherman and Denison, is just one of the factors that keeps down the cost of living in the area.
"Coupled with our tax rate, it makes this a great place to live, and an affordable place to live," said John Boswell, the president of the Sherman Economic Development Corporation.
The low prices mean that Sherman and Denison are more attractive than ever to people who are retiring, or looking to move to a warmer climate.
"I am working with a couple from New Hampshire and they are like 'Wow' when they see our prices. The same home up there would be twice as much," said Tooley.
The high affordability ranking can't hurt when it comes to recruiting companies to set up shop in Sherman.
"Today it is very competitive, so we need all the tools we can get to compete for businesses, and this is a good news story for us to tell, it will help us recruit more industry," said Boswell.
The news isn't just limited to Sherman and Denison, Paris was also in the top ten on the list, a fact that could help North Texas and Texoma continue to grow as the economy begins to move slowly into recovery.
