5-20-04 - Police busted a check forgery ring in Durant this week that had a bizarre twist – the suspects were caught dressed as women and trying to pass checks at Walmart.

An alert clerk got suspicious and called police. All four men were trying to write separate checks and several high dollar items, including computer software and phone cards.

All four were from the Ft Worth area, and had fake ID’s made to match the women’s names on the checks. Police believe most of the checks were stolen from the DFW metroplex.

Authorities are trying to track the extent of the forgery ring, which could lead to several other Texoma towns.
