DENISON, TX -- One year ago today an EF-1 tornado tore through the city of Denison.

Winds topped at 125 miles an hour, and while there were no reports of any serious injuries, there was extensive damage to dozens of homes.

Denison Fire Chief Gordan Weger says today the city is even better prepared to deal with an emergency like that one. With the implementation of the Code Red System, along with new emergency sirens, Weger says citizens have more advanced warning of any potentially dangerous weather events.

Weger also adds that since the tornado the fire department has installed some of their old radios in the public works vehicles for even more reliable communications.
