5-23-04- A McAlester mother is on a mission to see her soldier son. Private David Willis was injured in Iraq last week when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by a homemade bomb. Now, Tammy Willis is determined to visit David in his German hospital.

Now McAlester residents are working to raise money to send Tammy to see her son who was wounded while fighting in Iraq.

Private First Class David Willis was injured while guarding a
convoy of fuel and ammo trucks.

A home-made bomb blew up the fuel truck he was guarding.

Tammy Willis says her son was burned on his hands, his ear and
jaw line.

Willis says her son kept fighting and he and other soldiers killed the person who set off the bomb.

Now she's trying to get to the German hospital where he's being
treated.

Senator Jim Inhofe helped her get a passport that she would have
otherwise waited weeks for. Now she's hoping to come up with the
money to visit her son.

Willis says her son is in good condition...if he had been in serious condition the military would have flown her there.

A fund has been set up at BancFirst in McAlester for Willis. To contribute to that fund, send donations to: The Willis Fund, P.O. Box 1107, McAlester, OK 74502.
