ARDMORE, OK -- Earlier this month, a Texoma boy attached a letter and a dream to a helium balloon and let it float off into the sky, knowing the chance of someone finding it was slim. But hundreds of miles away someone did find it. Shelby Levins reports.

Jon Huntley found the balloon about 500 miles away in Greenville, Mississippi. Bradley Bamberg let the balloon go from just outside of Ardmore. The 12-year-old didn't do this for a school project, he did it purely out of curiosity. Now both Bradley and Huntley say they're amazed at the outcome.

Bradley Bamburg likes playing outside with his dogs, and it's Oscar who keeps him company as he does one of his new favorite things.

"Right as a get off the school bus, I'll ride my bike down to the mailbox and look and see if I get a letter,” Bradley said

The 12-year-old is looking for a letter from his new pen pal Jon Huntley. But the two didn't start their friendship through regular mail like this -- "How are you doing buddy? I'm going to tell you the truth I've never been on the TV before in my life"

It all started when Bradley attached a note to his father's birthday balloon and let it fly away. Huntley found it several hundreds of miles away in Greenville, Mississippi.

Now this is the second letter Bradley's gotten from his new friend -- "I'm going to have this news anchor contact Shelby Levins that way you can see what I look like also."

Huntley was featured on the news in Mississippi, after he found Bradley's balloon and note in the middle of a field he was plowing.

"The little boy touched my life and I hope I touched his when I wrote back,” Huntley explained.

First News gave Bradley his first look at Jon Huntley Thursday evening. The young boy says his favorite part about all this is the impact he's had on someone who was once a complete stranger.

"He said I touched his heart, and he touched my heart too,” Bradley said.

Bradley says he never expected to get a response when he let the balloon fly away, much less be on the news. But the young boy says he's learned a lot from his experience.

"It's a good thing to do things like this. There are good people in the world."

Bradley says he plans to keep in touch with Huntley via regular mails. But adds he’s not done with his balloon experiments. He says his brother’s birthday is coming up later this month and he might let his birthday balloon go to see if he can find another new friend.
