Garvin County -- It's been more than a year since a Wynnewood man was found shot to death in his own home. Now a grand jury seated to investigate the death of Tom Horton has released their initial findings. Shelby Levins reports

The grand jury and the Garvin County District Attorney's office released a "partial report on the Horton investigation.” The report is just the grand jury's initial finding, but in the four page document, the grand jury makes it very clear, the jurors believe Tom Horton shot himself to death.

Tom Horton was found dead last December, with a shot gun wound to the chest.

Local investigators believe Horton shot himself, and a state medical examiner agent ruled the death a suicide. But family members and loved ones say Horton was murdered.

A grand jury was seated in September to investigate the shooting death.

According to the partial report released by the grand jury, the investigative body heard evidence and testimony from a variety of individuals, including a ballistics expert, and Jon Horton - Mr. Horton's adoptive son who was present in the house when the alleged suicide took place.

The report says the grand jury did not hear testimony from the hand-writing expert initially hired by the family to examine the alleged suicide note.

But in the end the report says the grand jury finds the evidence “conclusive and consistent with suicide.”

The initial petitioners disagree, releasing this statement to us –

"Although we appreciate the hard work put forth by the Grand Jury and the District Attorney's office, we respectfully disagree with the findings as published. We are unable to embrace the scope and direction of the investigation until all available information regarding Tom Horton's death has been scrutinized." -- the Grand Jury Petitioners

The grand jury is still impaneled. The petitioners and many others involved in the case are still under a gag order, so not much else can be released at this point.

Online court documents show the grand jury is looking at other cases, but DA's office says they can't release any other details.
