6-4-04 - An experimental drug could end up saving the life of a Sherman man. Jimmy Conaway was diagnosed with lung cancer in February. At the time, doctors told him he didn’t have many options for survival.
But they did offer him an experimental treatment that only 51 other people are taking across the country. Known only as c110-33, the treatment, combined with chemotherapy is painful and causes numerous side effects. But so far, it appears to be working for Conaway. After four months of treatments, his tumors have not grown and his prognosis is looking up.
With two more chemo treatments to go, doctors and Conaway are hopeful that he will survive. Unable to work since his diagnosis, his bills are mounting. Conaway's family has set up a riding lawn mower raffle to raise money. They’re selling tickets at Dennard’s in Whitesboro.
