6-7-04 - A north Texas Meals on Wheels program is hurting financially, and it could affect their service to the elderly. In the past year, the program in Grayson, Cooke and Fannin Counties has seen a 5% decrease in funding while expenses have gone up 8%. With at least 1,500 people being served a day, the director says some people may have to go without.
Fresh milk has been one of the more noticeable cutbacks – switching to powdered milk recently is expected to save the program $19,000 a year. But supporters wonder if future cuts will have an impact on recipients. The program is state funded, but donations are accepted. If you’d like to help out, call (903) 786-3351.
