Petition Trashed - Sherman Rejects Signatures

6-7-04 - Sherman city leaders aren't letting a petition stop their efforts to take over the commercial trash service inside city limits. Monday night, the council rejected the petition submitted by commercial provider IESI.

IESI submitted 2,300 signatures two weeks ago - claiming all those people want private trash service to stay in Sherman. But citing illegible signatures, unverifiable addresses, and unregistered voters, city leaders rejected the petition. IESI only has 10 days to resubmit, which they say they will do.

If all goes as planned, Sherman will start collecting commercial trash in the next few weeks.
