(Austin-AP) -- It's here -- the Texas commemorative quarter. Ceremonies were held today at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin to unveil the state's quarter.

Governor Rick Perry says the Lone Star is one of the most
identifiable symbols of Texas. Perry handed out some of the new Texas quarters to children who attended the currency ceremony.

The back of the Texas coin features an outline of the state with
a Lone Star superimposed over it. The top of the quarter says "Texas" with 1845 -- the year Texas became a state -- just beneath the state's name. The rim of the quarter is encircled by a lariat.

The quarter was designed by artist Daniel Miller of Arlington. The Texas quarter is the 28th in the series of state coins minted as a way to honor the 50 states.

The quarters are minted for only ten weeks.
