New Engine 85

SHERMAN -- The Sherman Fire Department has a new toy to play with. The department received a new fire truck Saturday.

New Engine 85 is a Pierce Custom Pumper. The engine is equipped with a 1250 gallon per minute pump, holding 750 gallons of water.

On Saturday, several fire fighters joined in, pushing the new engine into the station (a tradition which dates back to the early 1900's).

It’s the newest feature though, that’s adding the excitement.

Chief J.J. Jones says, “It’s equipped with a compressed air foam system and advance firefighting technique. It uses foam instead of fire to extinguish fire.

New Engine 85 replaces Old Engine 85. The old engine truck will be sent to Weir, TX, a community just west of Georgetown with a population of less than 600.
