No Death Penalty for Nichols

(McAlester-AP) -- Terry Nichols will not receive the death penalty for the 1995 bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building. Nichols' jurors today deadlocked after about 20 hours of deliberations, and Judge Steven Taylor will handle Nichols' sentencing.

Because jurors did not recommend the death penalty, Taylor can only sentence Nichols to life in prison with or without the possibility of parole.

Nichols is already serving life in prison on federal convictions
relating to the deaths of eight federal law enforcement officers in
the bombing of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building.

Jurors in his state trial deliberated about five hours before convicting Nichols on 161 state murder counts, but reached an impasse in deliberations in his sentencing.
