06-14-04 - (Los Angeles-AP) For the first time this year, gas prices are heading in the direction most of us would prefer: down. The bimonthly Lundberg survey shows the national average price has dropped 6.5 cents, to $2.40 per gallon.

Analyst Trilby Lundberg cites a boost in gasoline production and a dip in oil prices. Prices had risen more than 59 cents since mid-December.

The average price on the last survey, on May 21st, was slightly above $2.10 a gallon. Lundberg regularly polls nearly eight-thousand gas stations across the United States.

The survey found Tulsa has the lowest price in the nation with an average price of $1.75 per gallon. The highest price of gas can be found in San Francisco when a gallon costs $2.32 cents on average.
