6-14-04 - A sinkhole appeared in the middle of a Love County highway on Monday afternoon. The Department of Transportation got the call around 5:30pm that the hole had appeared on State Highway 76, just south of Wilson. The hole measured 4 feet wide and 18 inches deep.
DOT officials aren't sure what caused it, but suspect recent rains somehow managed to undercut the roadway and cause the cave-in.
Work crews managed to put a temporary patch on the hole and will begin a permanent fix Tuesday morning.
