PARIS, TX - A seven-hour standoff yesterday between several law enforcement agencies and an armed man accused of kidnapping and rape ends with the suspect in custody and no shots fired.

The Lamar County Sheriff's Office says 52-year-old Charles Ray Stevens surrendered around 11:30 last night after he started a fire inside a vehicle which ignited much of the car's interior. At that point a SWAT team with bulletproof shields were able to apprehend him.

It all started yesterday morning when a handcuffed woman who'd allegedly been raped then kidnapped was able to escape Stevens' vehicle while he was buying beer at a Boswell, Oklahoma, convenience store.

Stevens was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, and kidnapping.

The standoff shut down Highway 19 south of Paris for hours Sunday afternoon.

No one was injured in the standoff.

Bond was set at $175,000.
