SHERMAN -- An elderly couple was trapped in their car from nine in the morning until one o'clock Thursday afternoon after driving off the road into a ditch.

The couple drove off the side of Loy Lake Road just north of Highway 75 down into a ditch before coming to rest in a creek bed.

It was over four hours before a family driving by saw the car and called 9-1-1.

Both passengers were conscious when emergency workers arrived. They were able to pull them from the vehicle back up a four foot embankment to the waiting ambulance.

The woman was care-flighted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas in critical condition.

The man is in stable condition at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman.

We’ll have a full report tonight on First News at Six and more posted later on KXII.com.
