GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. -- Sherman city leaders are asking for public input about a possible new jail. A town hall meeting is scheduled for Tuesday evening at six o'clock in the ballroom at the Municipal Building.

Officials say overcrowding is a problem, and as the population grows the need for a larger jail does as well.

A group of consultants has already recommended the county build a new jail. The chamber is hosting the event so the public can give their opinion.

"When you have something like this, people have questions. This gives them a chance to get the answers with out them having to ask over and over again," says Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum.

For more information you can contact the Sherman Chamber of Commerce at 903-893-1184.

how long has it been since the jail was built?? i remember it being built and it doesn't seem like it was that long ago...in building life. maybe if the current jail had been taken care of it would still be in good condition. sherman could probably use a new jail but as a homeowner and tax payer i'm tired of wasting money on it.

How about a "Tent City"? If Tents are good enough for our military the should be good enough for our criminals.

If they would not give inmates more rights than us hard working people, maybe they would not be criminals and the jails would not be overcrowed.. Jail Commission needs to wake up.

Why bother. They should loose their rights the minute they are put in jail. It shouldn't be a picnic, cram em in as much as you can, feed them bread and water, no tv, no extras, THEY ARE IN JAIL FOR A REASON PEOPLE!

Overcrowding has always been a problem in the GC jail. I mean it takes them months to actually give inmates a trial and that's a big reason there is overcrowding. I personally know people who have been in there for months on end waiting to have a hearing. If they wouldn't take there sweet little time to get people in front of a judge and an decision in their case maybe there wouldn't be overcrowding.. but that's just my opinion

Hey, the best thing we can do is just the oposite of what they are doing in Durant! Since Their jail is a total failure doing the oposite would probably make the new jail a total success. Wow - a jail that actually keeps criminals off the streets. What a concept.

Over crowding will cause fights and make it unsafe for the employees, who work there. So it would be best to build a new jail. Because the Texoma area is growing. So crime will go up because of that.Just like the Dallas area did over the years.
