DENISON, Tex. -- Denison will be the home to the Dixie All-Stars Softball Tournament from Friday through next Wednesday. It’s an event that will attract families from eleven states and bring in millions of dollars to the area.

Denison chamber of commerce officials expect the teams to arrive around 12:30 Friday afternoon, and they have been preparing for that arrival for the last couple of weeks.

Officials say they expect close to 700 people to pass through Denison in the next five days. That includes players, coaches and their families. All of them will be staying at local hotels and eating at local restaurants.

Officials expect between $1.5 million to be pumped into the area.

The tournament last through next Wednesday.

I'd like to know how they come up with these dollar figures. There's no way this tournament will pump 1.5 million into the local economy. Do the math - for this to happen, 700 indiviuals would have to spend 0ver $2100 (that's per person folks.) I think the tournament is a good thing but the COC needs to get real with these figures. I doubt it will generate half of that. Who are they trying to fool here?
