COOKE CO., TX – Two tough 911 calls in Cooke County have a positive outcome, one thanks to a four-year-old boy. Another call was successful thanks to a dispatcher’s unusual method of communication.

When a call comes in, 911dispatchers immediately begin to gather information and help those in trouble. But what if the caller is four years old?

That was the case on February 28, 2010, when Christopher and Riley Burt called Cooke County 911 because their grandfather needed help. Dispatcher Amanda King answered the phone.

Six-year-old Christopher initially made the call but they didn't stay on the line. When King called back, four-year-old Riley answered. He told her his grandfather had fallen, needed to go to a hospital and needed a Band Aid.

"If he wouldn't have told us he needed a band aid, only deputies would have shown up and then it probably would have been probably another 30 minutes before we got EMS up there and by that time who knows what could have happened,” said King.

She said Riley gave her a lot of information, a description of where they were and what happened. She said he did better than most adults on emergency calls.

"He definitely saved his life. I mean he was care-flighted, so that was a pretty big emergency,” said King.

But earlier that month, on February 8, 2010, dispatcher Patti Holder received another difficult call.

"She couldn't speak at all so she called on a cell phone and you couldn't get an address from a cell phone so I had to figure out where she was and what was wrong,” said Holder.

So Holder started asking questions, and eventually had the woman make noises to indicate “yes” to narrow down the caller’s location. She started with cities and then streets, finally able to locate the woman and send out emergency personnel.

"She stayed on there with me the whole time and we got her the help she needed, and she's alive so I did my job,” said Holder.

Both tough calls, and now both lives saved, which is always a good feeling for 911 dispatchers.

"It feels amazing, like you just won the lottery, it's an amazing feeling,” said Holder.

"When you have a positive outcome you're super excited, because it's not always like that so when you have those small miracles like that it makes your whole day,” said King.
