7-10-04- Recent state test results show many Oklahoma students are not making the grade. About 75 percent of fifth and eighth grade students in Oklahoma did not pass state tests, but education officials said they scored only slightly below the requirements.
The state Education Oversight Board says 57 fifth grade classes
received satisfactory grades on state tests for five straight years.
Two of about 300 eighth grade classes achieved top grades for five years.
Nineteen middle schools and 142 elementary schools were named
"benchmark" schools for having 70 percent of their students score
at least satisfactorily on standardized tests. The results are from
the 2002-2003 school year.
The tests cover seven subject areas and are given annually.
