Controversy in Bells

BELLS, Tex. -- A special meeting to talk about the future of the Bells Police Department has been scheduled for Monday amidst the elimination of two police officer positions earlier in the week.

It's unclear what the agenda is, but we do know it's in regards to Chief Tommy Carter’s resignation.

The City of Bells released this statement on the issue:

"The position for police chief is being reviewed at this time for position and full department expectations. No decision has been made at this time for any action."

Bells Mayor Pat Wilson issued this statement on Friday morning. We're told Carter will not turn that resignation in.

We contacted him, and he's been advised not to talk with the media about the investigation.

Again, that special meeting has been scheduled for Monday.

The city council eliminated two police officer positions this week after those officers left to pursue other opportunities.

Should the Bells city council have eliminated the two police officer positions?

I apologize for all the misspellings. I tend to get in a hurry when it comes to saying what is on my mind.

I honostly believe that a couple of the city council members have their own personal agenda in mind and not the city of Bells. Its a shame that we elected some of these folks. The ones in question dont nees to have their names written for the people of Bells to know who I am talking about. If those cith council members caould get over their ill feelings towards the police department, and start thinking about the job they were elected to do then we would not be having this contravrsy. Its a shame to think that those city council members in question are to much of a tight wad taht they dont see the need for a police department in Bells. So lets do like the other person has commented on, lets just have our own redneck justice and take matters into our own hands. SORRY THATS THE STUPIDEST IDEA IVE EVER HEARD Quite frankly I dont want to spend time in prison Ive already spent 13 years babysitting people like that. Bottom line the city council needs to get their heads out of their a@@.

Mamma2,3 babes, you need to rethink your comment. If no one except Texans were ever in Texas what would that do to the economy of that state?

I have been attending meetings since January and you still don't get the full story. So, I am very aware of what happens at city hall. Or should I say doesn't happen.

As a taxpayer in Bells I am appalled at the irresponsible behavior the council is showing in regards to our safety. We in Bells are fortunate to have a police chief with as many years of experience as Chief Carter what a shame if they do succeed in forcing him out.Small towns do not attract many officers due to the low pay and location and the city council doesn't feel the need to adequatly compensate those men. Instead they pay a water department worker a lot more than they are a police officer who will risk their lives at some point. I just don't see the logic in their thinking. Maybe the council needs to think about raising taxes, something that hasn't been done in sometime. The saying you get what you pay for comes to mind.
