Martha Stewart Sentenced

07-16-04 - (New York-AP) Martha Stewart has been sentenced to five months in prison, five months of home confinement and fined $30,000 for lying about a stock sale.

Just before her sentence was pronounced, Stewart asked the judge to, "Remember all the good I have done."

The woman who turned gracious living into a (b) billion-dollar empire told the court this is a "shameful" day for her, her family and her company.

U-S District Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum noted that she had sentenced Stewart on the bottom of the confinement range of ten to 16 months.

Hundreds of well-wishers had written Cedarbaum, asking for mercy.
