CARTER COUNTY, Okla. -- Residents in Springer and Gene Autry spent a few hours in the dark on Tuesday.

Over 800 O G & E customers were without power for most of the morning.

Officials say around 8:30, a transformer blew, causing the main power station to shut down.

O G & E had the power back up and running a little after 10 a.m.

Company representatives say they think the humidity is causing problems with the power stations.

To Mom from Oklahoma: I dispatch for a power company, and I just have to say yes, squirrels really do cause that much trouble. They run across the power lines and can get on the transformers, fuses, cutout doors, whatever; fuse to blow or door to fall. It happens a lot, and I would say that they (O G & E)are telling the truth with all the cool weather he have been having lately I would say it is very likely that the squirrels are running much more this summer than they normally do. There are also products generally called animal protection that companies install on their equipment to discourage or keep animals off the transformers, this does not work all of the time, somehow the little guys find a way to get through it. Mom, I understand the frustration, sometimes it just cannot be helped. I hope that this at least helps reassure you that your power company is not just giving you an answer just to get you off the phone. It is ver possible.

Every time the power goes out OG&E says it is a squirrel. Do squirrels really get in and cause trouble that much or is that just the generic answer?
