Mysterious Rash Appears After Swim

7-21-04 - A Murray County teenager is worried that an area lake caused a blistering rash on her body.

Gayla Cooper’s legs, arms and hands are covered with red welts that she says appeared after she swam in Veterans Lake on June 27th. Located in the Chickasaw National Recreational Area, the 16-year-old Cooper was there swimming laps. A dermatologist couldn’t determine what caused the rash, but Cooper says it’s more than coincidence.

Lake officials say they are testing the area Gayla swam in, but are skeptical something in the water triggered the rash. They test the lake monthly for bacteria, and no one else has come forward with similar symptoms.
