07-19-04 - The battle over commercial trash in Sherman goes before the public Monday evening, when the City Council will decide whether to repeal an ordinance passed in March of 2003.

The ordinance allowed the city to take over commercial trash service, however IESI, the commercial trash provider for Sherman has fought the ordinance with a petition, then lawsuit.

On Wednesday, the city council voted 3 to 2 to call a public hearing, where they will decide whether to void the ordinance passed more than a year ago. Repealing the measure would by-pass the lawsuit filed by IESI and allow the city to take over service after IESI’s contract expires in October.

Citizens and representatives from IESI will have the opportunity to speak for or against repealing the ordinance Monday evening at 5pm.
